This Privacy Policy explains how the NoxLens Chrome extension (the “extension”, “we”) handles information.

Summary. NoxLens changes webpage appearance locally in Chrome. It does not sell user data, run analytics, show advertising, require an account, or send webpage content to the developer.

1. Information the extension handles

1.1 Website content

To provide Dark Mode, E-Ink, Blue Light, media, scheduling, and visual accessibility options, NoxLens reads webpage styles and visible page structure and adjusts their appearance. This may include locally processing text, images, video, hyperlinks, controls, embedded content, and dynamically added elements.

This processing happens on your device. Website content is not collected by the developer and is not transmitted to any developer-operated server or third party.

1.2 Saved preferences

NoxLens stores only the settings needed to provide its features:

  • The global on/off choice
  • The selected preset and per-preset color adjustments
  • Image and video grayscale choices and strength values
  • Automatic schedule settings
  • Accessibility Assist preference

NoxLens does not store website hostnames or create a browsing-history log. It does not record page URLs, page titles, visit times, searches, or navigation activity.

1.3 Information we do not collect

  • No personally identifiable information
  • No health, financial, payment, or authentication information
  • No personal communications
  • No precise or approximate location
  • No click, mouse-position, scroll, or keystroke tracking
  • No website hostnames or browsing history
  • No analytics, advertising identifiers, or crash-reporting data

2. How information is used

Website content and saved preferences are used only to provide NoxLens’s user-facing appearance and accessibility features. They are not used for advertising, profiling, marketing, creditworthiness, or lending decisions.

3. Storage and sharing

Preferences are stored using chrome.storage.sync. This lets the global on/off choice and visual settings persist between browser sessions and, when Chrome Sync is enabled, across signed-in Chrome browsers under Google’s terms and privacy practices.

The developer cannot access Chrome account credentials or the user’s Chrome Sync account. NoxLens has no developer-operated server and does not sell or transfer user data to third parties.

4. Browser permissions

4.1 Website access (<all_urls>)

NoxLens is designed to apply the user-selected appearance consistently across ordinary webpages. Its packaged content script starts at document_start and can run in page frames so the chosen theme can appear before a bright page paint where possible and remain active after reloads, new tabs, cross-origin navigation, dynamic updates, and scheduled changes.

The activeTab permission cannot provide this always-on behavior by itself because it grants temporary access only after an explicit user gesture and is revoked when a tab navigates to another origin.

On the device, NoxLens examines DOM elements and computed styles to adjust backgrounds, text, links, borders, focus states, icons, CSS background images, media, overlays, hover states, and newly added content. It does not store page content, website hostnames, or browsing history. Nothing is sent to a developer server, advertiser, analytics service, or third party.

4.2 Storage

chrome.storage.sync stores only the settings needed to reproduce the user’s chosen appearance. Website hostnames, text, images, form values, account data, and browsing history are not stored.

4.3 Active tab

activeTab is used only after an explicit user gesture, such as opening or operating the toolbar popup. It lets the popup update the current page and report whether that page supports content scripts. The tab URL is not stored or transmitted.

4.4 Scripting

scripting is a recovery mechanism for tabs that were already open when NoxLens was installed, updated, or reloaded, or when the popup or side panel cannot reach the declarative content script. It injects only JavaScript and stylesheets packaged with the extension. NoxLens does not use eval, remote modules, downloaded JavaScript, externally hosted application code, or remotely hosted CSS.

4.5 Side panel

sidePanel opens the packaged Advanced Settings interface. Users can edit or reset presets, configure media grayscale strength, set schedules, and control Accessibility Assist without leaving the current webpage. The panel does not load a remote website or third-party content.

Chrome does not allow extensions to modify protected pages such as chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store.

5. Remote code and external services

All executable JavaScript and stylesheets are included in the installed extension package. NoxLens does not use remote JavaScript, remote WebAssembly, external APIs, analytics services, advertising SDKs, or a developer-operated server.

The optional Buy Me a Coffee and PayPal buttons are ordinary external links that open only when the user selects them. Payment information is handled by those independent services under their own terms; NoxLens does not receive or process payment information.

6. Data retention and your choices

Saved preferences remain in Chrome storage until you change or reset them, clear the extension’s data, or uninstall the extension. You can turn NoxLens off globally, restore original page appearances, reset individual presets, or uninstall the extension at any time.

7. Limited Use disclosure

The use of information received from Chrome extension permissions adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide or improve NoxLens’s single purpose and user-facing features. It is not sold, transferred for unrelated purposes, used for advertising, or made available for human review.

8. Security

Webpage processing remains on the user’s device. NoxLens does not transmit website content over a network. Chrome Sync, when enabled by the user, is provided and secured by Google under Google’s policies.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as NoxLens or applicable requirements change. Material changes will be shown on this page with an updated effective date.
